"The Haunting of Midnight Highway: A Tale of Terror"

As the clock struck midnight, John found himself driving alone down the desolate highway that led out of the city. The night was dark, the moon hidden behind heavy clouds, casting an eerie blanket of darkness over the road. John had heard the legends of a highway ghost that haunted this very stretch of asphalt, but he had always dismissed them as mere tales to spook travelers.

As he drove deeper into the night, the road seemed to stretch on endlessly, with only the dim glow of his headlights cutting through the darkness. The air grew colder, and an unsettling feeling began to creep over him. He brushed it off as nerves and turned up the volume on his radio, hoping to drown out his unease with music.

Just as he was starting to relax, the radio crackled and went silent. John's heart raced as he fumbled with the controls, but the radio remained dead. Panic set in as he realized he was truly alone in the silence of the night, surrounded by darkness and the persistent unease that had settled in his chest.

Suddenly, the car's headlights flickered, then died, plunging John into pitch-black darkness. He slammed on the brakes, heart pounding, and tried to restart the engine, but it refused to respond. Panic turned to fear as he felt a presence outside the car, something indescribable lurking just beyond the windows.

In the inky blackness, he caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure standing at the edge of the road. It was a silhouette of a person, but its form was distorted and twisted, like a nightmarish apparition. Cold sweat soaked John's brow as he watched the figure draw closer, its movements unnatural and disjointed.

Desperation consumed him, and he reached for his phone to call for help, but the screen remained dark, and the battery was inexplicably drained. The highway ghost, now mere feet from the car, emitted an otherworldly wail that chilled John to his core.

Terrified and trapped, John could only watch in horror as the ghostly figure pressed its grotesque face against the window, its hollow eyes locking onto his. Its voice, a gurgling, agonized moan, filled the car, drowning out John's own screams.

Time seemed to stand still as the malevolent spirit continued to torment him, its presence suffocating and inescapable. The nightmarish encounter left John scarred for life, a cautionary tale for those who dared to travel the haunted midnight highway outside the city.
